Project Organisation Chart Generator

    How to use

    Build the chart top down

    Start with the most senior role, then add each position under the person it reports to. The layout redraws as you go.

    1. Name the projectThe project title appears in the chart header and in the exported file name.
    2. Add the top positionEnter the role, and the name if known. Leave Reports to as Top level.
    3. Add the teamAdd each position and pick who it reports to. Use Type to separate site staff, part time staff, main office and consultants.
    4. Edit and moveClick any box to edit it. Changing Reports to moves the position and everyone under it.
    5. ExportDownload a PNG for documents and slides, or a PDF sized to A4 or A3 landscape with a header and legend.

    Common questions

    Short answers about building, saving and exporting the chart.

    Is my chart saved?

    Yes, in this browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing site data or using a private window removes it, so export a copy when the chart is final.

    Can a position report to two people?

    No. Each position has one line manager, which keeps the chart readable. Show a dotted line relationship by using the Consultant or external type, which draws a dashed box, or note it in the role text.

    Can I have more than one top level position?

    Yes. Each top level position starts its own tree, drawn side by side. This suits a chart that shows the client, consultant and contractor teams together.

    What size is the PDF?

    The PDF is landscape. Smaller charts go on A4 and larger charts on A3, scaled to fit one page with the Planix header, the legend and the date.

    Can I change the colours?

    Yes. Each type has a default colour and shape. Change the colour for a position and that colour becomes the default for its type, so the legend stays consistent.
